Zerobridge

By: Debbie

popYOUlarity.com: How do you feel the response has been so far to the release of a single a month? Do you think that has helped the band get your music out there to a larger audience who may not have heard of you before?
Din:It’s too early to tell but I think the response so far has been quite positive. For a band at our level that is trying to be heard among the vast majority of other bands that are out there, it’s a brand new way to reach out to people who wouldn’t otherwise hear our music. As far as I know we are the first band to try something like putting out a new digital single every month for free until a physical release is available. I think as the singles keep coming out the attention towards the band and our work will grow even more.

popYOUlarity.com:I really love the track “Unrequited Lust” Can you talk about how that track came together?
Din:The phrase is taken from a book I read by British author Helen Walsh, entitled “Brass”. One of the characters is in a pub scoping the place out, sizing people up and she describes the pity she feels for a certain individual she never even met before whom she perceives as being sexless. It’s something everyone feels at one point or another. I guess the song is about getting over that fear of wanting someone or something and the anxiety of it all, pushing oneself to go after it, denying oneself at the same time. There’s a self-deprecating aspect to the song especially when I sing, “And who the h*ll should I be? /I wanna be 17/ All over again! / I’ll fake it! I’ll fake it!” The tune is intense and rocking but hilarious at the same time. I like that paradox.

popYOUlarity.com:How would you describe and/or define your style of music?
Din:I always say it’s just straight up rock n’ roll. Not to sound cliché but our music is very hard to categorize. Our influences are vast and ring true throughout but we don’t sound like anyone really. So I don’t know, I guess we just sound like zerobridge.

popYOUlarity.com:Do you have any other aspirations, even outside of music?
Din:No, not really.

popYOUlarity.com:To date, what has been your biggest career highlight?
Din:There’s been several. We played a couple really great shows with John Lennon/David Bowie guitarist, Earl Slick. We cut a track with him that we will be releasing as one of our singles soon. The first time we played the Mercury Lounge was cool. I guess we felt kind of legitimate afterward. We just played a show in front of 300 people at the Mansion (a dance club in the meatpacking district of all places!), which was probably the best show we’ve played so far. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. We turned on a lot of people to the band that night.

popYOUlarity.com:How does your creative process work for you? Do you have to sit down in your space to do it, or is it just a matter of when inspiration hits you?
Din:Most of the time it’s a really slow process. I really have to work at it and sculpt things down. I usually work out the song or most of it with the chords, melodies and arrangements. Then I bring it to the band and they work out their own individual parts and we flesh it out, try different things and see what sticks. Music comes first and then lyrics. There are times when it feels effortless and it just comes out. I wish I had more of those.

popYOUlarity.com:Looking ahead, say 5 or even 10 years from now, where do you see yourself?
Din:God only knows. I really don’t like thinking about it. I can’t even say what’s going to happen tomorrow.

popYOUlarity.com:What is the hardest lesson you have learnt so far in the entertainment industry?
Din:There are too many. Almost everyone is a flake. Almost everyone is out for themselves. Promises are to be taken with a grain of salt. Uncertainty is absolutely certain.

popYOUlarity.com:At this point, what do you fear most?
Din:That my worst fear will be published for everyone to see on http://www.popYOUlarity.com

popYOUlarity.com:In the big picture how would you like people to view your music?
Din:I want people to appreciate and realize the honesty and beauty of our songs. Our music is a celebration of rock n’ roll and everyone and everything that has influenced us.

popYOUlarity.com:How much pressure do you put on yourself? Is that pressure what you need to keep you going?
Din:A lot. I want zerobridge to be the best band on the planet. We just keep going not because we need the pressure-Who really needs that? - but because we love what we do. We love the band; the songs and we know we have something to say.

popYOUlarity.com:Success isn’t a destination, it’s a journey. What do you think about that statement?
Din:Success is both a destination and a journey. Until I get there and get a good taste I won’t know otherwise.

popYOUlarity.com:With your music, what are you trying to open people’s minds up to exactly
Din:First and foremost, I want people of all walks of life to appreciate and relate to the songs. In a lot of ways our perspective is radically different from most bands and that is expressed through the songs. My brother and I have a strong part of our cultural heritage from Kashmir (a region of the world that is a flashpoint in today’s political climate) and South Asia in general. Hopefully zerobridge can bring awareness and interest to that part of the world and the issues surrounding it along with being known as one of the best bands around.

popYOUlarity.com:Do you have anything you would like to say to the readers of popYOUlarity?
Din:Thanks for hanging out and reading about zerobridge. If you like what we have to offer, please spread the word to whomever and wherever you can.
